Two Cases of Haloperidol-induced Peripheral Neuropathy in Chronic Schizophrenia

Chang Hwan-Il
Abstract
two chronic schizophrenic patients developed signs of peripheral neuropathy after receiving haloperidol One patient, who was a 25-year-old man, showed weakness in the lower limbs after faking 30mg/d for 2 months. The other, who was a 28-year-old
man,
revealed a left wrist drop after receiving 40mg/d for 2 weeks. The clinical symptoms and electromyographic(EMG) findings of neuropathy improved after withdrawal o dose reduction of haloperidol Thus, haloperidol may cause a toxic, dose-dependent,
reversible peripheral neuropathy.
